Look at this cartoon. Do you see anything wrong with it? Do you think it is racist? Antisemitic? Or just bad taste?
It was posted on the Facebook page of the Presbyterian Israel Palestine Mission Network. This group issued a report which was circulated to the Presbyterian Church (USA) entitled "Zionism Unsettled." The report, in a nutshell, demonizes Israel, putting 100% of the blame of the conflict on the Jewish state, absolving the Palestinians of any responsibility whatsoever for the conflict or for its resolution.
The PC(USA) and the IPMN say that they are independent of one another and that the group "speaks to the church but not for the church." That exact language is used by both groups.
But the PC(USA) sells the groups publication on its website and collects contributions on its behalf and under its tax exempt cover.
The report questions the right of Israel to exist.
The group's leader, Framke, had advocated that Hamas keep Gilad Shalit a prisoner.
Question: is the respectable, mainstream Presbyterian church dabbling in radicalism? Anti Jewish rhetoric? Is it being truthful regarding its fiscal relationship with a known extremist group? It seems gauche to question a pillar of our community in this fashion - but these are important questions.
